Windows/ Steam. I created a full bridge rectifier. To flatten the resulting voltage, the circuit needs capacitors. I can add two capacitors, as long as they are not in the same "column":
Upon adding a third capacitor in parallel either on the upper power rail or in the led's "column", I get a warning:
I'm pretty convinced those warnings are false negatives.
Tried the same with LTSpice, got the same result. Puzzled. Dug up a few infos. I see, ideal capacitors vs. ESR... Phew, learned something new. Would be nice to have an info about that among the description to have simulation newbies like me NOT trip over it. That obviously is a simulation artifact 😉
Should someone else want to put multiple capacitors in parallel in a (this) simulation: always separate them with resistors (that may have very low albeit non-zero resistance). Like this:
... and you probably want to look up ESR.
Mike, is there more like that in simulation? I'd like to simulate larger circuits before actually creating them (planning PCBs, have them manufactured, soldering, etc.). At a hobby level, but still... If simulation may give misleading results, I'd like to know which pitfalls to avoid beforehand.
